Hello, welcome to this guide on how to set up the Authenticator for PC use.
1. Download and install a beta program called 'WinAuth' to your computer. When it's done installing, run it and you should see an empty screen with an 'Add' button.
2. On your web browser, log into the runescape homepage, hover over account in the top right and click 'Authenticator'. On the next screen, press 'Set up now'.
3. On your web browser, you will find a QR code for smart phones to scan. Don't worry about this, we don't need it. Press 'I can't scan the code' and you should be given a 16-character code and be told to select 'Time based'. Copy the 16-character code.
Note: I recommend writing down this 16-character code somewhere safe. If your computer breaks or you uninstall WinAuth, you will be able to set up another authenticator with the same 16-character code again.
4. On WinAuth, press the 'Add' button, and choose 'Authenticator'.
5. Name your new Authenticator your account name, and paste the 16-character code in the textbox provided in Step 1.
6. Click 'Verify Authenticator' and you should see a 6-digit code appear. Click 'Ok'.
7. The window should close, but WinAuth should still be open. You should see a new code generator on WinAut* titled your account name. Right click your account name and press 'Sync Time'.
8. Click the reload arrow if there is not a code available, but if the code is generated enter it on your web browser and proceed with the steps Jagex gives you to set up your authenticator.
Remember: Whenever you need a code generated, you will need to press the reload button. An alternative to this is right clicking your code generator and pressing 'Auto Refresh'.
After Authenticator is successfully installed, load up RuneScape. You'll need to give another code every time you log in, or you can trust your device for 30 days.
